Prehistory
The Périgord Noir is an area of rich pre-historic interest, including the Cro Magnon caves and the Prehistoric Centre in Les Eyzies with the Font de Gaume cave paintings, as well as the famous Lascaux complex.
Culture
Culture is well catered for: there are several series of classical concerts performed in beautiful churches and numerous exhibitions of painting, pottery, woodcarving, ironwork, tapistry, weaving, etc.
Other activities
There are activity theme parks for children, water activity fun parks, and safe river beaches for boating and swimming.
One of the most popular attractions is canoe hire which allows you to explore the Dordogne river with its castles and picturesque villages at your own rhythm. Or you can take a scenic and educational river trip in a "gabare", a traditional Dordogne sailing barge used to transport merchandise in previous centuries.
Le Bugue, our local town, has an excellent aquarium, a reconstituted village over several acres demonstrating the traditional activities of 100 years ago, and a selection of prehistoric caves.
